Freeport is located in Cumberland County, Maine. The population is 7,800 residents as of the last census. Annual visitors, however, total in the millions. Freeport is approximately 15 minutes outside Portland, which is Maines largest city. Freeport’s historic coastal village charm, famed world-class shopping, range of accommodations and proximity to the big city dynamics and additional resources make it a prime destination.

Freeport is part of the Greater Portland and Casco Bay Region in the Maine Office of Tourism / Maine Tourism Association regional designation plan.

Settled about 1700, Freeport was part of North Yarmouth until set off in 1789. Freeport developed as four villages, all of which are now part of the National Register Harraseeket Historic District. Freeport boasts an active Historical Society. A unique blend of commerce and community has preserved much of Freeport’s history for the enjoyment of its visitors today.
