Settled about 1700, Freeport was part of North Yarmouth until set off in 1789. Freeport developed as four villages, all of which are now part of the National Register Harraseeket Historic District. Freeport boasts an active Historical Society. A unique blend of commerce and community has preserved much of Freeport’s history for the enjoyment of its visitors today.
