Real Pirates, Now Showing at the Portland Science Center.
Journey into the exciting world of real pirates and experience true adventures that are more powerful than the stuff of legends! The Portland Science Center is pleased to host its newest exhibit “Real Pirates,” an exhibition from National Geographic. Suitable for guests of all ages, Real Pirates tells the story of Captain Sam Bellamy, his crew, and the infamous pirate ship, the Whydah. One of the most advanced ships of her day, the Whydah sank in a storm in 1717 off the coast of Cape Cod while carrying the bounty from more than 50 captured ships. View more than 150 artifacts from the ship wreckage including cannons, swords, coins, and jewelry, as well as the only authentic pirate treasure ever recovered.
The Portland Science Center is located just 15 minutes from Freeport, on the historic waterfront of downtown Portland, Maine.
